ASTORIA, Ore. – A slithery surprise found in a car at a grocery store parking lot may have been a prank rather than the work of Mother Nature — and if it was, it turned into a prank that kept on surprising.
Sherry Hart found a pair of garter snakes in the back seat of her car on a recent shopping trip, only to find more under a floor mat.
“This lady was freaking out next to her car,” says Will Brinkerhoff, 17, an employee at the North Coast Fred Meyer.

Clatsop County Community Development Director Kathleen Sellman is resigning her position to accept a new job in Arkansas.
Sellman will leave the first week of August to become the planning and development director for the City of Hot Springs in south-central Arkansas.
This is fairly big news. The Development director is a pretty big post at the County. Most of which involves measure 37 claims. As such it will be hard to find a person to “hit the ground running”, unless it is someone from another Oregon County.
This will be one of the major decisions that the current Board will make before the “new gang” takes over.
The Clatsop County Board of Commissioners is now posting the agenda packet for its upcoming meetings online…...

A new feature to North Coast Oregon. The most recent comments now appear on the lower right part of the page. It became obvious that comments on older articles were not noticed even to me, so now you can easily check the most recent activity by looking at the list.

In the Local weather section I added a link to NOAA’s Tide and Current Center. It is a bit different than a tidebook. It shows the tides in “wavelenghts” instead of dates and times. It also shows the actual tide numbers, which most of the time differ from the predicted numbers. If you click the link, you will see that a decent clam tide occurs tomorrow at about 4:00 pm.
Due to a time zone error the tides are actually on GMT time, which is 8 hours ahead of ours. I will try to find a better link, in the meantime just subtract 8 hours from the tide chart, to get the right time.
So the low tide I was talking about was actually at 8 am not 4 pm.
