First up is the first major news out of the Skipanon LNG camp in a long while. They filed plans to run a pipeline from the Skipanon to Molalla. The company has renamed it self “Oregon LNG”
The company arose from the bankrupt Calpine, which had proposed building an LNG import facility just inside the mouth of the Columbia near Warrenton. It is 1 of 4 proposals for LNG import terminals on the lower Columbia River. There is another near Coos Bay.
Oregon LNG still hopes to build the plant but has not entered the formal federal permitting process. Neither have the other four. Oregon LNG filed preliminary plans with the Federal energy Regulatory commission on May 31st for permission to build the underground pipeline, a job that could take three years.
Hearings are planned this month in Woodburn and Forest Grove and in Warrenton, where the proposed import facility would be built.
In the plans the pipeline would run through 6 different counties….
2 local twins, who will be graduating in the next few days have been accepted to Columbia University.
Bryan and Alex Tarabochia, both of Ilwaco have accepted undergraduate scholarships which will pay full tuition and living expenses to the New York City University.
They both work in Astoria and own a gillnet fishing boat, which they have used to fish on the Columbia since the 9th grade. Which side of the river they fish on is still up for debate.
Peter Defazio tells the Associated Press that more than likely the Timber Payments will be phased out in the coming years. The only plan on the table that would extend it would double the cost. The plan would send the same amount of money to current counties, but Republicans are demanding that the other half be sent to other counties that have nothing to do with federal timber restrictions.
It official, the M37 re-write will be on the State-wide ballot on Nov 6th. If anyone can read “Double-Speak-Lawyer-Mumbo Jumbo”, please read over this and tell me what it means…..
The WSJ has printed up a graph that shows the public support that Presidents have recieved over the last 50 years. A few notables about the graph. Most Presidents start out relatively high, then their popularity drops off as the near the end of their term. The only exception was Clinton, who left with a higher approval rating that when he started. This even while he was under the microscope, and impeachments hearings.
