Astoria, Ore – In an exchange of emails last spring between county manager Scott Derickson and District Attorney Josh Marquis words got heated with Derickson finally telling the commissioners that he could no longer continue communicating with Marquis via email because of the hostility of Marquis’ emails.
A new Clatsop County Planner Jennifer Bunch, whose mother, Peggy Tomlin, recently retired as the District Attorney’s trial assistant, has allegedly made similar accusations against Commissioner Richard Lee.
Clatsop County road workers were in the thick of last December’s record-setting windstorms braving the hurricane-force winds, falling trees and mudslides to open roads. On Wednesday, they received some well-deserved praise.
Some people have been asking me for the letter that Derickson sent to the Staff regarding the Lee Family Tort Claim. My front page is a little slow anyway so it is underneath the fold.
I hope to do these a little more often in the future. Basically about 1 day a week I’m going to mention a few issues/events/rumors and see if NCO readers have any input.
All areas outside the Oregon Metro areas jumped from November 2007 to December 2007. Clatsop went from 4.7% to 5.8%. It hasn’t been that high since May of 05. Tillamook and Columbia also edged up, but not nearly as much.

The Grill has locked it’s doors, no reason on why, but I would say there are just too many restaurant/bars in Astoria. Especially of the non-smoking variety and the opening of the Shipyard might have pushed them over the edge.
A super-uber Rant over at Argument Smargument. Definitely worth checking out. Turn your monitor brightness down before you go…the white on black reminds me of trying to read Guy’s Blog when he first started.
Scientists have been tracking Sea Turtles by satellite over the past few years. One of them left Indonesia and ended up at the Mouth of the Columbia a year later. It then went to Hawaii for the Winter and returned to Oregon in the Spring. Anyone hear of people spotting turtles in the Columbia? These are 2,000lbs!!!
