According to today’s article in the Daily Astorian, the Oregon Dept. of Justice is investigating Richard Lee.
Tom Bergin said the investigation has been going on for 2 weeks.
NorthCoastOregon was not able to speak with Page McBeth, the investigator in charge of the case, but did talk to the Justice Dept. Spokeswoman Stephanie Soden. She said that private citizens don’t go directly to them.
“Either the District Attorney or the Sheriff will turn a case over to us.”
“Usually it’s the District Attorney, and we work with them to see if we have to get involved with a case”, Soden said.
NorthCoastOregon asked Josh Marquis if the District Attorney office turned the case in and he said “I have no comment on this”.
Sheriff Tom Bergin said, “The Sheriff’s Office was not the one who brought it to DOJ because the allegations were not brought to us.”
See below for the rest of Bergin’s comment

Well it’s nice that you included his views after he said “no comment”.
“No Comment” means everything following that is no comment in my book.
Riiiiight!
Whatever.

“The Sheriff or D.A. asked for this investigation?”
Where did this come from?
It wasn’t in The Daily “A”.
Can you quote the source specifically?

McGee – perhaps you need to reread the article? It’s not that long.

And your point walt?
Where is the source that specifically stated D.A. or Sheriff asked for a DOJ investigation and doesn’t DOJ turn the case over to D.A. when it’s ready to go to Grand Jury?
Once again, Your Point Walt?

An investigation was asked for …
The spokeswoman says private citizens don’t go to them …
The spokeswoman says the DA or Sheriff will ask for the investigation …
Ergo, it’s a reasonable conclusion that either the DA or Sheriff asked for this investigation.
If you don’t come to that conclusion, perhaps you should state yours.

“Conclusion” or “Assumption”?

Of course with Mr. McGee being a pseudo Jeopardy champion in his own mind. His answer will be in the form of a question.

OK, you guys win this one.
Just thought Tryan would be a little more accurate in his reporting.
No major fuss here, obviously just trying to make news out of nothing.

Considering Josh is now for “Open Government” as opposed to his former advocacy of “Independent Government”, you would think he would be forthcoming about being the “Generating Force” behind the criminal investigation.
How about it, Josh? Are you going to “Be a Man” and come forward with your involvement? The voters want to know the whole story.

From Tom Bergin:
You are correct and that is usually the case but what usually occurs first is that citizens from our community bring the alleged criminal activity to Law Enforcement or the District Attorney’s Office where then it is determined the best course of action is to be taken. In this scenario, the Sheriff’s Office was not the one who brought it to DOJ because the allegations were not brought to us. I was asked a few weeks ago by DOJ to provide him with some names/info that they were requesting for interviews. The info was provided as we would have done if any other LE agency would have asked for assistance within our community.
Changed the title in lieu of the Sheriff’s comment….

D.A. “Most Likely”?
Alright I give up.
I guess we can get away with this crap because we are not legitimate reporting agencies.
So “Most Likely” Richard Lee is…............?
I guess one could insert whatever he likes.

2 questions
Is there any doubt in your mind who brought this to the DOJ?
If I offered you a wager of $500 that the person who filed this complaint did it through Josh Marquis, would you take it?
we are not legitimate reporting agencies.
In your opinion yes, others would say any number of news sources are not “legitamate”.....
