No word yet on whether the weather (I’m awful) will cause delays or closures this morning. At about 10pm it was right at freezing and ice was on everything but the pavement. After snowing about a 1/2 inch at 11:30pm it’s warmed back up to 34.
The Satellite picture has small pockets of precip rolling in, but either way it doesn’t look good around 7-8am. If it clears up it will no doubt freeze, if the Precip keeps rolling in it will hang around 32-33 degrees and we will see snow and slush.
So if you know of any school closures or delays, post em here so other folks know what is going on.
A very interesting ruling has been revealed by the Sec of State office today:
Elections Division Director John Lindback determined that the group, Our Oregon, was not required to register as a political committee based on its contributions and spending.
You have to click the link to read the whole story, but in a nutshell, Our Oregon, a non-profit corporation, took about $800,000 in donations from various sources and spent $200,000 of it on ballot issues. The State ruled that since the main purpose of the Corporation was not political, it wasn’t required to report information under campaign laws. It did report some of it anyway, but it reads like some of it wasn’t revealed and would of needed to be if they were a political action group.
I ask…now that this ruling is on the books, what is stopping any non-profit Corporation from doing this?
This seems to make it very easy to get around campaign laws on small local issues. Say the Recall Lee group starts a Non-Profit to “Save the Widgets”. And it raises $4,000 from contributers. It could spend $1500 on Recalling Lee and the other $2500 on saving widgets and it wouldn’t need to report info to the State. Or say Richard Lee starts a Non-profit to promote worm farming in the county and raises $4,000 from contributors. He could spend $1800 on keeping his seat and the rest on worm promoting and not report the donations and spending because keeping his seat is not the “main purpose” of the non-profit.

Another miscarriage of justice. These shenanigans must be halted. Where is our Secretary of State? Bradbury better tend to this immediately. We all know of the dimmo Sizemore-phobia, he could start a non-profit and really pull those little hairs that hurt. So would unions, who would now have a political clout without scrutiny. Oregon politics on both sides get curiouser and curiouser.
