But … does it really mean anything? Will anything really change?
They admit, in the bill, that the WA Constitution (Art 1, Sec 16) already prohibits the gov’t from taking one person’s private property for private use by another person. They also admit such prohibition is regularly ignored by local governments.
So where’s the teeth in this bill? Where’s the consequences to local governments that ignore the prohibition?
What could the state do to such offenders? Quite a bit, actually. They could stop all state funding, arrest the local politicians who voted to support the action, arrest the local bureaucrats/LEOs who enforced the action, and even levy fines on the local gov’t and all individuals who violated the Constitution.
