Here's a hypothetical ...

by Walter Richards

Well, if the carnivore is a wolf, bear, or “big cat” ... it’s usually killed.

So the question is … why are sea lions treated differently?

Face it. If a bunch of bears kept returning to the docks, and trapping/relocating them didn’t work, the state would authorize killing them because they pose a danger to the public.

Yet when it comes to sea lions … public endangerment no longer matters.

Why?

You point the carnivore in the direction of Texas and tell him where LUKE is.

I think it’s the Feds on this one….I have a feeling the State would kill them if it was their call.

Even so, we are talking about a very small number of fish killed by Sea Lions. Sea lions and Fishermen kill between 5 and 10% of the salmon combined. Dams kill about 80%. (If the fish runs in the early 1900’s are considered a normal run)

I don’t really care about the fish issue. THAT could be solved if the damned gov’t and envirowackos acknowledged the science that there is no genetic difference between hatchery and “wild” fish.

I’m just thinking about the sea lions taking over docks, to the point where people can’t get to their boats. Maybe if the boats were mostly luxury yachts instead of fishing vessels, things would be different.

Maybe it is the feds, and not the state. I don’t really think it matters, though. If a citizen is endangered by an animal, even if that animal is on some “endangered species” list, the citizen has an inherent RIGHT to protect him/herself.
