News: Under the Radar Edition

I’m sure most everyone has seen KAST’s fancy new site with all the bells and whistles. Between them and the “Breaking News” stories that are appearing on the Daily Astorian website, they have all the easy stories covered.
So here at NCO we are going to have to dig a little deeper.

• Folks over at DSM are reporting that Josh Marquis has lost his bid for the President-Elect position in the National District Attorneys Association. I am fairly certain that he did lose because the election happened Sunday. If he won the news would be all over Lars/KAST/Daily Astorian/Oregonian etc etc…....

• Not An Attorney has a new post up about the Charter change that is an interesting read.

• NW Republican is reporting that Bill Sizemore” has turned in signatures for a 3rd ballot Measure for the 2008 election. This one would tie teachers pay to their “classroom performance”. And the “performance” is undefined, and that each district can decide what performance really means. Other measures that Sizemore has turned in signatures for is a Measure that would make Federal Taxes fully deductible on State returns, and a Measure that says schools must teach English to all Oregon students first.

• The Dead Zone has returned to the Oregon Coast. Supposedly it’s caused by too much NW wind in the Summer time which I thought was normal. This is the 6th year in a row and I’m wondering when this is not considered an event anymore and just “the norm”.

• The Buoy 10 Fall Salmon Season will start on August 1st. So be prepared to battle all the big trucks hauling boat trailers around town.

• A Klamath Engineer has placed second in the National Bad Writing Contest. His entry:

The Barents sea heaved and churned like a tortured animal in pain, the howling wind tearing packets of icy green water from the shuddering crests of the waves, atomizing it into mist that was again laid flat by the growing fury of the storm as Kevin Tucker switched off the bedside light in his Tuba City, Arizona, single-wide trailer and by the time the phone woke him at 7:38, had pretty much blown itself out with no damage.
