Web Roundup and a word for the Sunday Market Haters

by Tryan Hartill

Update

I’m adding some links to the side-bar.

  • Second is the new writer on the scene Astorianna who has a fresh post up about the Astoria underground.
  • 3rd is a Oregon blog I just came across called Oregon Country. I’m not sure who this person is, but I like what they have to say about local and national politics.
  • And for both Peter and Anna, I would highly recommend putting your websites on orblogs.com.

Sunday Market

There has been some Sunday Market bashing lately that I think is unwarranted.

Guy over at Astoria Rust has been upset with it for a while, now he is boycotting it.

Also another local writer has entered the blog scene. She has only been posting for 4 days and she already has 4 posts up. She also is having issues with the Sunday Market.

I admit I am not a major Sunday Market spender. I’ve only been 3 times this year and spend between 15 and 20 bucks each time. But I don’t even notice the dogs/kids/loiterers that others see. I am down there to buy some things (mostly veggies and fruit) and head out. I would much rather go to the market than Safeway or Fred Meyer. (Have you been to Freddies lately? There is crap filling up every aisle and nobody can even move)

About the only complaint I have with the Astoria Market is that there is no broccoli for sale, even though I thought July was the season, and parking is a bit troublesome during the 11-2 time period.

So go early or go late, but please GO! And don’t let the haters scare you away.

Tourists

  • I don’t mind tourists, I start up conversations with quite a few in order to learn at bit about them, where their from and why the came to Clatsop County. But please drive near the speed limit! If the speed sign says 35, then drive somewhere between 30 and 40 MPH. It is the posted speed because that is what is considered safe. 22 MPH in a 35 is not what we want to see around here. Driving 42 MPH from Warrenton to Gearhart is NOT acceptable!

And if for some reason you can’t go near the speed limit, pull off to the side and let the 10-20 pissed off drivers pass you.

Other tidbits from around the Web

  • Here is a interesting page that has a quiz to take that tells you how close you are to each Presidential Candidate.

There was one surprising result for me. I seem to match perfectly with Mike Gravel. I have taken a lot of these quizzes and I guess they have never included him. I only disagree with him on one issue, I am a supporter of the death penalty (although I think it should be used less than it is now) and he opposes.

The other candidates that were near my answers were the usual, Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, who were both tied for 2nd.

Richardson and Obama followed those 3 and the Republican front-runners were so far off is isn’t even funny.

Ron Paul 2.0

Beans!

  • Yes beans! You have to hit this link and and have your mouse clicker ready, you will be rolling on the floor after checking this one out.
  • And on the flip I give you the reason why pillows come in sets of 2….

The is an all to familiar sight around these parts. Although usually he is laying on his back with his legs pointing toward the ceiling and showing off his “junk”.

Oh dear…I just realized how pathetic my life is…my dog has his own full size pillow!

TH, Being that you are a kid with a dog, no wonder you don’t see them. I’m getting you a white cane for your birthday. The place is a zoo, it screws up traffic, the customers are rude. I say change the venue.

Where would you get the idea that I have a dog…...oh wait….

White cane?

But how would you change the venue?

Even if you had another place to do it, the downtown business owners would throw a fit if it moved since they probably sell more than the market itself. (at least when it’s raining)

And trying to keep dogs out of downtown on Sundays would be a policing nightmare. And I’m not sure what you would do about kids. I think they would always be there no matter what the venue is.

The Market in Beaverton doesn’t allow dogs, no problem there. What business would be harmed if Sunday Market went away? How do they survive from October – May?

BTW I don’t have a problem with kids at the market, triple wide strollers, yes, but not kids.

Something on which anonymous guy and I agree!

I love my dog, love to walk my dog, but NEVER bring it to Sunday Market (which I love, by the way.).

People should keep their dogs out of there. It’s crowded enough as it is.

Shouldn’t be difficult to police – most people will simply not bring them once there are signs posted at each end of each block. I’ve seen this at other markest, and it works.

Now what to do about people who don’t pick up after their dogs – is it really that hard to bring a bag along on walks, people? Pick up after your dog.

Bring your own baggies … pick up after their dog … and drop the baggie in the person’s groceries.

LOL!

That’s okay, TH. Murray (my dog) gets me out of bed on my days off, just so HE can climb up.

“Hey, it’s MY turn now. You’re supposed to be going to work. Get out.”
