Oregon
- The Oregon House overwhelmingly passed HB 2827, which says the State will comply with the Real ID Act. The Measure is said to be doomed in the Senate.
- One School nutrition bill is on the way to Gov. Ted, it would set tougher nutrition standards for local school districts. Local districts would pick up the cost. 3 other bills are also on tap. One would create a statewide farm-to-school program and est. cost is $175,000. Another would give 7 cents per meal to each district from the State to spend on Oregon agricultural products, est. cost 8.6 million. The last would give grants to schools for gardens and instructional projects on growing food. No cost has been figured.
Local
- 2 tourism write-ups about the North Oregon Coast. One in the Oregonian and one floating around lots of newspapers via AP.
National
- Another terrorist plot foiled. Like they rest, experts say they would have had very little chance of pulling it off, but it’s nice to see these cases getting investigated unlike in 2001.
- Even though DHS’s top priority is catching terrorists, they have only charged 12 people out of 800,000 with terrorism and only 114 of the 800,000 cases were national security violations.

- The Democrats in D.C. harped against earmarks in the last election. But the Appropriations Committee has ordered all earmarks to be added at the end….because…wait for it….there are too many (36,000) for the Committee too go over!
- The Sudanese ambassador to Washington has threatened to cut off the western world from Coke products. His country exports 80% of the worlds gum arabic, which is used for making cola. When a reporter asked if he thought this would bring the western world to it’s knees, he responded, “I can stop that gum arabic and all of us will have lost this, but I don’t want to go that way.”
