Garage Sale Update

by Tryan Hartill

With 3 garage sales happening in the North Coast web world, it’s probably be coming a sore subject. But I’ll go ahead and do a update anyway.

Here is a few photos of the Pioneer House benefit sale. These were taken in the early afternoon on Thursday while we were setting up. This is probably only about 1/2 of the stuff we had, with lots more coming all the way up until Friday morning.

We ended up selling just over $1700 worth of stuff. About $450 of this is going back to our club. The proceeds from items that were donated by Astoria Kiwanis members and bought by Astoria Kiwanis members went back to our club. All the rest will be giving directly to the Pioneer House….

Not sure if we just had too much stuff, or the large amount of sales around town spread the shoppers too thin, but we still have about 75% of the donated items left at the shop on 39th.

Another sale is tentatively scheduled for the 23rd and 24th of June at the same location. We should have even more items and will be very motivated to sell everything we have.

Thanks all for your donations and purchases!

Well, you’re also competing with the peninsula garage sales. This is the big weekend when it seems every street on the peninsula has a garage sale. Thousands of people come to the peninsula for it every year. Perhaps next year you should split yours, and bring half over to the peninsula … double your exposure. heeheehee.

Thanks for the mention of my second day sale, TH. Looks like I missed a bunch of good stuff at your sale instead of working my own. And yours was going for a better cause.

Walter, you from across the river? Sounds like a shameless plug for the “peninsula”.

Yep, I’m from Washington. Thought everybody knew that by now.

Walter: In past years that that LB peninsula has been very good to me, used to bring my trusty old VW bus back brimming with treasure. I generally went on friday and made a day of it.
Auntie: The champion garage sailors know that anything can be anywhere at anytime. Sure those earlybird a#*holes try to scoop all the cream, but often more things get set out later or prices are reduced. Say, how did you do with your old Singer treadle?

Pierce – its still sitting there. Come by and see it. 9th and Niagara.

Walter, I am kind of a slow learner. Didnt know you were from the other side. Mea culpa

Auntie- I won’t be in Astoria till the 2nd week of June. If it’s still there then we’ll talk. Random thought- If my children grow up to be champions of anything, please don’t let it be garage sales.

Pierce- it will probably still be here by then. Made just under $300 which is pretty good for a neighborhood sale, I guess. I dont know what I will be spending my half on. Its sort of like “found” money, only really its not.

I have a swell idea! Why doesnt everyone concerned with the recent canceling of the District Attorney’s stipend, gather up all there unused or no longer needed household stuff and drop it off at the courthouse? The D.A. and his staff have about six weeks to sort through it before having their big fundraising sale for the poor underpaid starving District Attorney!

Hey, that reminds me…wasnt it budget time last year when josh or his wife convinced the democratic local party to plan a “bake sale for justice” or something to fund the two positions in his office when it looked as if they were going to have to come up with the money.? Does anyone else remember this? Did it happen?

Oh I’m just sure there’s quite a bit of old junk languishing in basements and sheds at various county facilites. I’m sure the basement and attic of the courthouse are full of old crap that someone would love to buy. And how often does the D.A. clean out that evdidence locker to make room for new stuff? I’ll be they’be got literally tons of paper-old trial records, probate records, deeds, all that stuff laying around gathering dust. Well, I say, let the DAs office have a bif sale and turn that trash into cash.

Maybe they can charge folks to have a tour of the “old” jail that all those goonies freaks are always posing outside of for souvenir photos. A truly creep experience to be in one of those old cells.

Or they can start auctioning off those game heads in the lobby of the courthouse for ‘big bucks’ (sorry for the pun)

Yeah, the DA could turn the jail into a Bed & Breakfast. Charge those Goonie Tourists high dollars to let’em stay in there, and even higher dollars to let them out.

Really, Pam, we should stop coming up with such good ideas as to how easily the d.a. could come up with a little extra scratch to help pay those pesky bills. Like, couldnt him and Ms. Cindy Price man a booth at the Sunday Market selling old files, or old evidence seized in old crimes?

What I’d like to see is more good ideas how we can make him feel he’s being slapped or spit in the face.

TH: Let us know when it’s running again, because if that metal detector or girl’s bike is still there, I’m pretty interested!
