Clatsop Election 2007

by Tryan Hartill

Here is a quick round-up on the May 15th election.

Port of Astoria

All 3 incumbents have already filed to run again. And all 3 have at least 1 challenger so far.

District 2

A 2 year term vacated by Glenn

Bernard Bjork (I)

The seated Commissioner who was picked as Glenn Taggart’s replacement by the current Commission.

John Dunzer

A “Tell it how it is” Guy, who has basically been on every ballot the last few years, including a candidate for the Port in 2005, Clatsop Commission in 2006 and the Seaside City Council in late 2006.

Patrick McGee

Yes, The Clatsop “BlogFather” himself has filed and will be on the ballot.

District 3

Jim Bergeron (I)

Current Commissioner who ran unopposed in 2003 and received 4,800 votes with 2,100 under-votes.

Kathy F. Sanders

Lives in Astoria and moved here from Idaho. She is a Christian Author, Poet, a founder of the Great Rift Writers and has recently published From Cross to Crown.
She also has a Christian blog Rough Cut Diamonds.

District 4

Donald McDaniel (I)

Current Commissioner who also ran unopposed in 2003 and received 4,400 votes, with 2,500 undervotes.

Jim Stroup

A retired Tug Capitan who lives in Warrenton. And a little useless fact for Auntie L, I shot my best score ever playing golf with Jim…a 65 at Astoria.

The last day to file is the 15th of March, so most likely this list will expand.

::::

Clatsop College

There will be another Bond Measure for the College on the May ballot. This one is site specific – at the donated property in Warrenton. This Bond Measure will be 22 million, which is lower than the previous at 24 million. The last one was estimated at 40 cents per $1000 property value. If the same numbers are used here, this one will end up costing about 36.5 cents per $1000, or 90 something dollars per year for a $250,000 house.

As Senate Bill 5516 stands right now, Clatsop will receive 17.5 million from the State if this bond passes.

The exact wording that will appear on the ballot can be found here.

Other May Ballot races can be found here at the County’s website.
