H.B. 1059:
To enhance the readiness of the Armed Forces by replacing the current policy concerning homosexuality in the Armed Forces, referred to as `Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’, with a policy of nondiscrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
Prohibiting no-cause evictions during the notification period
Stopping owners from drastic rent increases intended to force tenants out
Giving tenants a meaningful opportunity to purchase their unit
Require relocation payments equal to three-months rent
The Coast Guard will enforce a 500-yard safety zone around liquefied natural gas ships navigating the Columbia River…... also established a 200-yard safety zone around LNG vessels while they are docked and a 50-yard zone around the terminal itself with no ships present. Such zones are designed to minimize the possibility of a terrorist attack.

re: “Assault Weapons” ban.
1 – The term “assault weapon” was coined by the Swiss, to refer to military (full-auto) weapons. It was an inspired propaganda tool, designed to further discourage anyone from attacking them.
2 – The term is vastly overused by politicians, the media, and anti-Constitutional groups. It is commonly used to refer to any firearm that meets cosmetic, rather than any real substantial, requirements. IE; an AR-15 with a pistol grip vs an AR-15 without a pistol-grip. Does the pistol grip make it more deadly, change the rate of fire (from semi-auto to full-aut, say), or change the calibre? No. It would be like outlawing certain clothing whores wear, rather than the act of prostitution.
3 – I wonder what the Founders of our country would have said about the gov’t banning/taking firearms. Oh, that’s right. We already have an answer to that. Two answers in fact. We have the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution … and the acts of Lexington/Concord.

re: “No Knock” warrants.
I wonder how “no knock” warrants fare in states with the “castle doctrine”?
For those that don’t know, the “castle doctrine” means that if someone enters your home without your permission, you don’t have to retreat from them – you can shoot them dead without any warning. It’s following the historic “common law” that “a man’s home is his castle”.
While the Constitution doesn’t specifically say a warrant has to actually be presented to the person, I’d bet it was universally accepted as implied in the Fourth Amendment.

I’m not really sure what this means, you’ll have to re-phrase it.

Who me?
I thought it was funny though when Guy, or someone asked what I did back in the day to deserve to be called the “bad guy”.
You didn’t have an answer…..

re: Homosexuals in the military.
I really don’t understand what all the fuss is about. Was there a rash of homosexual-related scandals that got ignored by the media in favor of “Tailhook” and the other heterosexual scandals involving the military that were all over the news a few years ago?
Though I wonder if the liberals have thought this through. Can you imagine what would have happened in the 60’s, if the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was in effect? Who needs to run to Canada, when you can just tell the draft board you’re homosexual (or bi)? Or just perhaps, given Rangel’s rhetoric, that IS what they’re thinking of? They want to close as many possible draft-avoiding loopholes they can, before instituting their draft. Hmmmmm.
–Who’s going to enforce the 50-yard (when no ships are docked) zone? Will we get some of those spiffy new USCG patrol Zodiacs, with the .50-cal machine gun in the local area? btw – bright orange is a stupid color for security patrols. Makes a great target, though.
And the vessels being escorted through the zone – are they going to be subject to a thorough search first, to make sure they don’t have (say) SAMs onboard? Or will the escort be more along the lines of traffic control? I’m guessing the latter.
I also think it’s another case of the gov’t claiming it’s keeping us safe, while doing little more than window dressing. Like those people who buy security stickers to put on their windows, without buying the actual security system. It holds up to a casual glance, but the flaw is obvious upon closer inspection.

Uh, that’s a great point re: the Castle Doctrine. But, of course, being Georgia they probably haven’t thought of that.
Yay! My kicker will just about cover ONE month’s gas bill! Best believe I can spend that money more efficiently than the state!

Of course, on the other news stations, I’m gettin’ plenty of coverage of The Siliconed One’s funeral but nary a peep on those no-knock warrants.

Seaside Artwalk is this Saturday. Anyone know why Astoria doesn’t have something like this?
Is this a joke? Weren’t you around for all the Astoria art walks in the 80’s & 90’s ?

Gee I probably met you about that time, way out near the Melville area of Lewis & Clark road while doing a little work for Crabo.
Used to be that there were several art groups like Astoria Visual Arts founded by a group of city mothers that promoted things like art walks and an annual arts celebration. The idea was to make Astoria a more art friendly place. It was a lot of fun and it worked really well. It was a fair amount of commitment for those volunteers I guess they figured they worked themselves out of a job once enough galleries moved in. No reason some of you young whipersnappers couldn’t pick up the ball and bring it back.17 On Aug 23, 12:10 am, Karen Hendricks wrote:
