News Briefs....Gift Cards...Drug Busts and More!

by Tryan Hartill
  • Ben Westlund is introducing a bill that would outlaw all fees and expiration dates for gift cards. The Bill also would put unused gift cards on the “unclaimed property” list. Which would result in unused card balances being funneled into the common school fund. Value of unused cards in Oregon is at $96 million a year…..I’m amazed at the creative ways that politicians find more tax money.
  • Still no word on what happened with the search warrants served in Seaside at the T-shirt shop last week…..Either someone is keeping a tight lid on this, or the warrants found nothing.
  • The Measure 37 debate will be happening next week and Ted K. is suggesting to give any property owner, that owned it before 1973, a maximum of three lots…..Hmmm I may still have a chance!
  • Astoria Girls Basketball gets a win against Banks 51-43 and will play Seaside next week for the 3rd playoff spot in the Cowapa league.
  • Passports will not be required for kids 18 and under to cross the Canadian Border. Everyone else must have one by early 2008 in order to get back into the country…..This will be a great cash cow for the Federal Government since each one costs $97 bucks and only 1/4 of Americans have one.

Okay, now I am waiting for you to bust out the next headline as “lions and tigers and bears, Oh My!”. Sorry I am a Wizard of Oz freak.

Wonder what the Constitutionality is of our gov’t requiring citizens to pay to get into their own country? That’s basically what the passport requirement amounts to. A fee to enter our own country.

Just so we all understand …

The gov’t doesn’t give a crap about millions of illegals entering our country, but won’t allow Americans in unless they have a passport. And not one politician in WADC has the spine (or is it brains) to point out this irony to the national media?

Breaking: Auntie L has a Blog!

Yeah I remember crossing the Southern border back into the U.S before 9-11. Hundreds and Hundreds of Mexicans just walked right through, but every white person was plucked out of the line and searched and checked for I.D.

It’s all supposed to be making you feel safer. Well, do you?

Damn, that means now if I want to visit Canada with Slave Hubby, we’ve gotta spend another $200 in bogus tax money just to freakin’ get home.

Constitution? What’s that? Fiddle dee dee, I spend all my time trying to feel SAFE!

And of course if you are a Mexican truck driver you are free to cross borders as you please…
