So I congratulate him and wish him the best in his battle with addiction and hope it leads him to be an even better representative of our community in our journey into the future.
I also most graciously commend Sharon Matzen and Al Bonner for being the few to have the courage to even attempt to unseat Willis and hope their visions of our future here will be realized as well through the continued service of Van Dusen as Mayor of Astoria, Oregon.
I think the 200-plus vote victory margin sends a clear message to Willis and I hope he heeds it with the utmost sincerity.
The College Bond?
Well, it was at least encouraging for Greg Hamman, in his comment on his failure, to finally admit the this whole smoke screen of locating the college on Warren Field was just that , a smoke screen and the likely true intent was to locate it on Nygaard’s property in Warrenton after all.
The main excuse?
Not fear of slides mind you but, trying to find a location for a new football field?

I disagree.
If it had been site specific to Warren Field, as implied, a clear disposition of the field replacement with a specific location, a clear disposition of the existing facility, it would have passed even with the possibility of CMH moving.
That building could have simply been added to College inventory.
Could it be the existing campus site would have been a good location for a new hospital facilty on those grounds with a restoration of the existing high school building for a functional use of an historic building?

I think that it would have had a much better chance of passing if they had chosen another site. Yeah, they say that it wasn’t site specific, but it sure looked that way. I’m actually pretty sure that saying that it wasn’t site specific was just BS. They should spend money to fix what they have. Why didn’t they give a choice? Well, now they have nothing, versus maybe getting money to fix the buildings that they already have. They have “Delusions of Grandeur” that they want the population of the county to pay for. Now, maybe they will get the message that the county population is not a well that they can tap whenever they want.

Going by the College numbers I would say the main issue was simply raising taxes. Even if everything was perfect, it still would not have passed.
But notice I was a little to “open fisted” on the write in numbers for Mayor
