Astoria City Council Condones And Supports LNG On The Lower Columbia?

by Patrick McGee

Astoria City Council Condones And Endorses LNG On The Lower Columbia!?

See what happens when you don’t pay attention?

Well, according to Ward 3, second term candidate Blair Henningsgaard.

Maybe I heard the sound byte incorrectly from the Candidates Forum the other night but, I could swear in his list of Accomplishments and objectives where he said and I am paraphrasing here: “To continue our (I would assume speaking on behalf of ACC since they all tout this “Team Work Concept” they expect us to swallow)voluntary development on LNG.”

To confirm this “Team Work” he confirmed on the sound byte interview you hear on The Daily “A”’s site that ACC works as one, a Team in the accomplishment of their planned objectives.

Well, anyone foolish enough to vote for this fella or any other member of that sitting council at this point would be to condone and support the betrayal of all the citizens of the Lower Columbia River.

A “Team they all say lately?

More likely a “Gang”.

Of course, among other invlovement in other local governments and not the only sitting Councilor being touched by the LNG issue, being the attorney of record for one of the key players in the Tansey Point LNG Scheme, one can see why that attitude would likely be prevailent on ACC.

Well, you want LNG in our community?

Vote for all three, that’s the quickest way to help get it here.

So the excitement of looking at renewable energy in our city is mereley and likely just an “Election Season Smoke Screen” to get money for the “City Coffer” as it was with the old Safeway Property grant and diffuse the Council’s actual position on LNG.

Hopefully you haven’t filled out your ballot yet.

Do you know the positions of the other folks running?

I know one sitting Councilor is married to Calpine’s local rep and another sitting Councilor, at the least and admitted so, was at the “Secret Meetings” saying he was there as a private citizen? prior to November 5, 2004 and now Henningsgaard has declared the Council’s position definitively on air.

Why do you ask?

I just have not heard in any of the sound bites. Just curious because I know I was asked many times and it was reported many times when I ran.

Crap did I miss something? Is the City of Astoria planning on trying to attract an LNG facility of it’s own????

Well, they boast that they are a “Team” and what one does, all the rest condone and support as Councilor Henningsgaard said in his Daliy “A” audio interview.

Likely all the rest but the only one to actually admit going to all the secret Calpine meetings prior to November 4, 2004 was “The Mayor” himself but, in his words….er…..ahem….”As a private citizen” if in any way that could even in the most remote logic be construed as something “swallowable”.

Not that they are trying to attract LNG here but, like all the rest except Hinningsgaard who let his sentiment slip, will sit there with there collective mouths shut and just let it happen because not one of them has the courage to take a stand against something that they all know is wrong for this community.

Oh Patrick…You got some splainin to do...

But even as they profess their love for this native son and swear to his skillful leadership, some worry: What does a vote for Van Dusen say about Astoria, finally thriving after decades of decay?

“I love the guy. He’s a master wordsmith, a master salesman,” says Patrick McGee, an architect who has lived in Astoria for 13 years. “But if he got caught three times, how many other times has he done this? Is this what we want to show our children? Is he representing the city in the best possible light? The answer is no.”

I tried to tell her I could not use the word Architect as it is a copyrighted word of the AIA and that I was simply a “Housing/Building Designer” and at risk of being sued if I even inferred it.

That’s the law in Oregon.

That explain it?

I told her to print a correction.

Everything else is exactly as I said it.

Or even more than you were before.

I’m surprised you did not mention Astoria Citizens Journal.

Patrick McGee,

Correction, you can not use title architect because of ORS671.

It is not a copyrightable title. It is a protected title under Oregon law not AIA. AIA has little or nothing to do with it. AIA is a proponent of licensing requirements for one to be titled architect. This requirement has been that way since 1919 in Oregon.

For your information, you can build commercial structure upto 4,000 sq.ft. of ground area and not exceeding 20’ height from top surface of lowest floor to highest interior finish.

I been through this with the OBAE. As for SFRs – you can make of any size but there is a point where a structural engineer is required to be involved. This is a matter of ORS 672 (OSBEELS)

Good Luck, sir. Just don’t want to see you go through some heated issues with the OBAE for some crazy reason. Different States, different laws.
