It is impossible for Mega-corporations to have your interests in mind. If it did, why is it then that , compared to a wage earner, they pay next to nothing in taxes.
Ken Lay cared about having enough money to maintain his mansions. He stoled the pensions and ratepayer’s money while having his flunkies play games with the books to make stockholders think their investments & profits weren’t being mishandled. Back in the 90’s Enron actually got contracts to rebuild Kuwait, thanks to that war with all it’s trickery and propaganda. Remember the “road of death”.
This Polarization is the battle strategy “Divide and Conquer”. So, through media ads our minds are molded to hate something, like politicians, unions, teachers and schools or love something like “LNG is for me” or anything made out of corn syrup or plastic. So when you see an advertisement, ASK YOURSELF, what is this thing made of, that they are so artfully tempting me with? Not only are they selling us on stuff we didn’t want or need, they are stealing away our citizenship, by calling us consumers.
Anyone old enough to remember two famous hollywood actors doing GE commericials for the “Cameo Home”? Any gullible kid would want a bright shiney over-lit “cameo home”. That was merely an all-electric house. Now GE needs to wage war to get lng for the “cameo homes” some of us may rent or own.
GE own’s NBC stations, radio stations, and weapons factorys, so they can have a good war, and repeat over and over the slogans to sell it. The slogans to convince us to kill our neighbors in other countries, so they can have more stuff to sell here or abroad.
Lately I’ve seen GE advertisments selling 4%+ interest with a $4,000 deposit. Of course your community bank will offer the same if you are lucky enough to have a community bank. (or $4,000) A community bank here in portland sells $100 9 month certificates of deposit at 4%+. They just don’t advertise.
Is the concept of a “government of the people, for the people, and by the people” quaint , or a forgotten truth? If it is truth, why do you hear references to citizens that want their country back, referred to as “pinkos”. “Michael Moore is a Pinko, ha-ha”. Slogans are powerful and polarization is happening right there, to separate you from your governing power, your citizenry. Right there, when they call a citizen a pinko, they are polarizing society. The corporate media is helping to hide the fact that the government is your’s and your childrens. But temporarily being used by Mega-corporations.
What does government of the people, for the people, and by the people mean? Is this government valuable? As a consumer (a corporate commodity) or CITIZEN is your government valuable to you? Depends on if you think of yourself as a commodity/consumer or a citizen- an informed voter, keenly aware of lies and liars.
Citizenship has been sloganed away from Americans. TV and print media refers to us as “the consumer”. We labor/work to consume the products we don’t really want or need, especially if it kills people in other lands, while at the same time making megabucks for the mega-corporation which spends tons of money on ads to tempt us to consume. Again, they pay nothing or next to nothing in taxes for what communities really need.
Is your cell-phone thin enough? Do you have enough plastic?
In the Comedy “The President’s Analyst” circa ‘67 James Coburn’s character says “We have to make the people hate the phone company”, because the bigger/wealthier they got, the more politicians they could buy off. (they’re back BTW) We have to make the people HATE the Fossil Fuel Industry, for that very same reason. Right now they are a necessary evil that must be phased out quickly and taken over by stiff regulations, so we citizens can be represented by the politicians.

Everything is geared toward the rich and this is increasing everyday, although what is rich?
Dollar bills?
No one will ever be able to convince me that collecting pieces of paper from the Federal Reserve is the way to get rich. It’s just one big house of cards with absolutley no chance of sustainability. And this I predict will cause Walter’s balkanization. What good is the Federal Government if their currency is worthless?

I was thinking today, if I put everything I have into gold, is their any chance that I could disappear with my “tons of gold coins in bags” without anyone knowing about it. They know of everybody’s transactions.
Other than what I buy with cash. A friend of mine just quit a temporary job and they paid him with a cash card. Is that happening much? I never heard of it. He had been getting his paycheck deposited electronically.

Where can I find the balkanization tristate piece? Was it a comment or on another site?

RE: Cash Cards.
Yes, there is a growing trend among large companies to use cash cards to pay their employees. The cards work like debit cards, and have to be set up through a bank (I think). The employer basically adds money to the card each pay period, and the employee can then take the card to the bank (or ATM) and “deposit” the funds.
IMO, it’s more work for the employer than just doing regular direct deposit. But, I guess it’s the new “shiny toy” on the block.

I think my “balkanization, then 3 nations” piece was a comment on Patrick’s site.
As to the Federal Reserve “unbalance” leading to balkanization, I think it will be a factor. After all, they’re just IOU’s. That’s why they’re called “Notes”. They aren’t backed by anything of substance. I’ve said before that, last I was informed, they’re backed by “the value of the American worker”. Which, obviously, is a circular argument.
Think what would happen if 1million Americans were to decide to stop taking these gov’t IOU’s. Employment law requires employers to pay in currency, if the employee asks. So what would happen were those employees ask to be paid in currency (not “notes”)? That’s a lot of silver dollars – since, I believe, that’s the highest currency we have at the moment.

So …I’m not sure I understand … are you saying one can’t be both a citizen AND a consumer?
As to your comments about polarization, I agree that our society is becoming too polarized. I’ve been saying that for years. Perhaps you now understand why I say, unless things change, we’re heading for a violent balkanization of the United States. Think magnets. They either bond, or repel. The stronger the magnets, the stronger (“more violent”) the effect.
As to the growing apathy concerning what gov’t does … or lack of citizenship, if you will … I blame the gov’t schools, more than corporations. There are so many “all-in-one” federal regulations, then state regulations on top of those, that – even though there are still local school boards – there isn’t “room” for local control. Then there’s the “fact” that gov’t doesn’t want kids to learn civics and philosophy, because it might cause them to learn to think for themselves, and then actually question gov’t.
I’m not saying there’s an actual conspiracy to avoid teaching civics and philosophy. Just a lack of thought during budgetting. “What good are civics and philosophy in the REAL world?” Well, if you aren’t aware of the civics and philosophy behind our gov’t … why should you care if our gov’t is no longer following them?
