1: A change in priorty at the planning departments. Both the city and county planning departments need to do whatever they can to help and not hinder growth and development. We need people that can quickly give answers and keep things moving forward. First, assist the businesses already here to expand. Lets make it business friendly.
2: Have property available to expand. If a community isnt growing its dying.
3: Change jobs of some existing government employees to direct marketing possitions. Lets sell the area to business and industry we want to see here. We have alot to offer. Especially if we can have housing available. There is a reason why “Clark County Washington is the fastest growing county in Oregon”. Housing is an important part to bringing your business to a particular area.
4: Promote tourism. It is a key part to growing our economy. Check out the Sunday Market and the Cruise ships in Astoria and the Trend West in Seaside, I could go on and on. WOW!! Lets advertise.
5: Lower property taxes. This has a direct effect on affordabity for first time home buyers and people on a fixed income. High property taxes alone are enough to make first time home ownership impossible in Astoria. Lets not continue to increase government spending with the increased revenue from recent growth.
“What about those we beg to stay here and contribute, our sons and daughters, who actually want to stay but cannot because the current equation will not let them.?”
Unless there are good jobs available, Clatsop County’s sons and daughters cannot stay and cannot return home. To change this we need to agressively seek out and recruit jobs.

Since I have been watching this one, there doesn’t need to be a change, pretty much everything is rubber stamped, which isn’t all that bad in my opinion, except when it comes to earth movement. This is my main issue with expanding everything. With 80 inches of rain a year and houses being built on the hills we will see more and more slides which is bad for everyone.
We also have issues with the number of people living in each house. Astoria has added close to 400 houses in the last 6 years with zero population growth. And this is the same for everywhere else in the county. We have tons of houses, but nobody is living in them, it’s just a write off for rich people that live in Seattle, Portland and San Fran.
