PNW News Round-up

by Tryan Hartill
  • I see some are training for explosions on the Columbia.
  • Exxel jumps over 10% after they acquire 60,900 acres of gas drilling rights in the Columbia Basin.
  • BPA’s power increase is shut down by Northwest Congress members.
  • Fish rally at 1pm tomorrow at the foot of 16th, even WooWoo is coming for this one.
  • Mini-mart worker in Bend does undercover work.
(A “small world” side note, I bought way to much beer from this guy when I lived in Bend, it was known as “Square K” because it had the same Circle K logo, but had a square around it. Many times there was a US Government car there and a guy in street clothes talking to this Khan fellow, we thought they were tracking our beer sales. I bet he wondered what I was doing with all those PBR 40’s I bought.)

They never called and asked me about the “kicker”. I’d say keep it as it is, get rid of the waste that I’m sure schools still have, and waste that I know govt still has.

I think much of the waste comes from measure 5 which sent tax money to the State for distribution. There are only a few counties that are having big problems, those are the ones that happen to get screwed by the “distribution system” (Portland, Clatsop, Tillamook) We should go back to funding our own schools so we at least have more control over who we elect to the school-board.
Locally the schools are getting very creative about getting money from the students (parents). If we are going to pay, I would like have one funding source right in front of us, instead of 100 different small taxes.

I might do a story a little later about some of the crafty ways the schools collect money from local parents through the students.
