Here is the draft of the “big plan” for the next 25 years. (Small PDF, only a 12 page read)
It’s easy to notice right off the bat that we are going “all in” on a pair of 2’s. Fossils and nukes.
Sure renewable energy is mentioned, but really it looks like it’s in the report just for political reasons.
Oregon and Washington both have huge resources of energy potential, with the main source coming by way of electricity.
Clatsop County can also produce huge amounts of electricity, just wind and biomass could power the whole county. Extra can easily be sold at “green rates”.
We seem to be waiting for the “big boys” to come in and do it for us and sell the power to us for low rates. There is a reason why this won’t happen for a long while. They can’t make enough money to even bother. They want control and high rates, neither happen with local small-scale energy production.
Are we ready to start?
Are local Governments ready to encourage or even “seek-out” small local energy companies or projects?
Will they change their current stance of “we’re not interested”? ( I won’t say who said that phase, but I know those words were expressed in the last year by a local official)
What will it take, besides another energy crisis like in 2001?
